Chic, modern, cool. Three words to describe our bride, Abi and her wedding to Eric at the Sky Gallery in Brooklyn. HB6899 is the perfect dress to capture her personality and we love the white blazer she styled with it! Thank you so much to Lee O'Connor Photography for capturing this modern love story for us. Many congratulations to you, Abi & Eric!!

Saja: How did you meet?

Abi:
On line! It was both our first time ever on a dating site. We were each others first dates. I reached out to him.

Saja: How did he propose?

Abi:
Our first date lasted 12 hours. We met each other at the Met which is both one of our favorite museums. We then had dinner and drinks in Soho. So for the proposal Eric asked me the week before to leave that day open as he wanted us to see a photography exhibit at the Met.  I ended up being late as I decided to go get a massage first, which unfortunately caused me to feel sick and dizzy afterwards. When I arrived at the Met Eric wanted to grab a cocktail on the roof before seeing the exhibit, I of course not feeling well wanted to sit down on the stairs to the entrance. As I started to feel better we made our way up to the roof. As we walked onto the roof, two women just happened to move aside so we could lean against the railing looking out at the gorgeous view. Unbeknownst to me Eric’s good friend, a photographer ,was taking photos of us as Eric proposed.  It was all very sweet and I almost ruined it.

Saja: Where did the wedding take place? What made you choose there?

Abi:
At the Sky Gallery in Brooklyn. We wanted something unique, intimate and small. This was just the place.

Picture
Picture
Picture
Saja: Which of the photos is your favorite? Why?

Abi:
Out of the ones I provided I would have to say the photo of Eric and I in front of the industrial steel background. Its modern and soft at the same time, like Eric and I.

Picture
Picture
Saja: What was your favorite part of the day?

Abi:
I couldn’t pick just one. I loved every minute.

Picture
Picture
Saja: Is there anything you can point out about your pictures that we might not have noticed?

Abi:
I may have been wearing sneakers at some point.... And thank you so much to our day-of coordinator, Alexandra Townsend, our caterer, Purselane Catering, the Gowanus Hospitality Group at Sky Gallery and of course our photographer, Lee O' Connor.

Winter in Central Park

Today we have a little Winter TBT by Julie Gee Photography! Central Park is one of the most classically beautiful locations in all of NYC with countless backdrops for some winter wedding inspiration. The timelessness of HB6979 made it a perfect choice for this shoot, and we love the styling with our flower sash and a knit sweater. Thanks to everyone that look part in such a magical styled shoot~

Laura & Mark

The Phelans are a very special family for us here at Saja. We've worked with the bride's sister, Colleen for many years and still use her styling talents to this day! It was such a treat to have all of the Phelan girls in the store to help Laura coordinate such a gorgeous bridal look. She is truly stunning in IK6901, the perfect choice for her intimate beach wedding in Cabo with white flowers tucked into her hair and Tracy, Colleen and Grace alongside her in our soiree bridesmaids dresses! A beautiful day for a beautiful family, congratulations again Laura and Mark!!
Picture
Saja: How did you meet?

Laura: Mark and I met during graduate school at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in North Carolina.
Picture
Saja: How did he/she propose?

Laura: Mark wanted to take a drive and walk along the water at Belmont Harbor in Chicago before going to dinner. We were sitting along the water looking at the beautiful views when he asked me to marry him. We were leaving for a trip to Turks and Caicos the next day so I was completely surprised. It was such a special day followed by a week of celebration on an island.
Picture
Saja: Where did the wedding take place? What made you choose there?

Laura: We got married in Cabo San Lucas at Fiesta Americana Grand Los Cabos. I have always wanted to have a small beach
wedding. We took a trip to Cabo a few years before we got engaged and always thought it would be a very special place to get
married. We wanted our wedding to feel like a vacation for our close friends and family, and that is exactly what we got.
Picture
Saja: What was your favorite part of the day?

Laura:
We had our wedding at a private villa on the property of the resort. My favorite part of the day was the morning of the
wedding. We woke up at the villa and had room service out by the pool and watched as they set everything up for ourceremony/reception. It was a very special time alone together to take it all in before everyone arrived.

Little Flower School by Jen Huang

For this week's Throwback Thursday, we dug into the archives for this gorgeous shoot with the Little Flower School. There is something so beautiful about the simplicity of a one-shoulder dress like HB6225 and we absolutely love the way that Jen Huang captured that. The dreamy setting at Garden Valley Ranch in Petaluma, California and the floral stylings of Saipua and Nicolette Camille are the perfect compliment.

Aleithia & Spencer

12/8/2015

One of the greatest parts of our job is hearing the Modern Love Stories behind our brides' weddings. This is especially true for the ones we never get to meet, like Aleithia! She makes such a beautiful bride in our HB6565 dress and twist- tie sash. We love the way she and Spencer incorporated books throughout their special day, and you will come to hear the significance for the two shortly! Thanks so much to Robert Posar for the lovely images, and congratulations to Aleithia & Spencer!

Picture
Picture
Picture
Saja: How did you meet?

Aleithia:
We met online through a mutual love of books. Spencer sent me a message asking if I’d read Dakota
by Kathleen Norris, which happens to be one of my favorites. I then looked at his profile and saw that he’d included a list of favorite poets. I don’t read much poetry myself, but I figured that anyone who would think of including poets on a dating profile would be interesting to talk to. And he was!

Saja: How did he propose?

Aleithia:

Spencer’s proposal was low-key, which was fitting since we’re both pretty low-key people. On New Year’s Eve we went to a gathering at his sister and brother-in-law’s house. Right after midnight, Spencer suggested we step out for a bit of air. I followed him out onto the front porch, and when he turned around he was holding a ring.
Picture
Picture
Picture
Saja: Where did the wedding take place? What made you choose there?

Aleithia:

We were married at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Edmond, OK, which I’ve attended for a number of years. Having studied history of religion in grad school, I loved the idea of having a traditional ceremony. Saying the same words that people have said for hundreds of years made me feel like our wedding was connected to a broader human experience. Also, since our wedding was indoors the chamber choir I sing with was able to participate in the ceremony. Picking out music was definitely my favorite part of wedding planning.
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
Saja: What was your favorite part of the day?

Aleithia:

My favorite part about the day was being able to share it with so many family and friends, who traveled to Oklahoma from all over the U.S. We spent most of the reception going from table to table to visit with people, which is exactly how we wanted it to be.
Picture
Picture
Picture
Saja: Is there anything you can point out in the photos that we might not have noticed?

Aleithia:
Our wedding didn’t have a theme, per se, but we I tried to incorporate things that were meaningful to us. For example, the books we used as centerpieces for the reception tables are all titles that one or both of us has read. The thistles in my bouquet were a nod to Scotland, where I went to grad school, as was our ring bearer’s “pillow”—an antique prayer book given to me by an elderly Scottish clergyman. Also, since I’ve moved a number of times and Spencer studied abroad in college, we had people sign postcards of places we’ve lived in lieu of a traditional guestbook. Also my Mother, who’s a trained floral designer, did all of the arrangements, including ribbon wrist corsages she designed for my Mother-in-law and herself.

Picture
Picture
Picture
Saja: Which of the photos is your favorite?

Aleithia:
Truthfully, I think my favorite photo is of my coworker’s daughter reaching for a treat from the pastries table. I love her sweet and slightly sneaky expression.

I also like the photo of us as we’re leaving the church. The exit happened sooner than we’d expected: Spencer and I went with the photographer to take a couple of outdoor shots, but when people saw that we were gone they assumed that we were about to leave, so everyone went outside and lined up. Almost before we knew what was happening, we were on our way! That night we stayed at a B&B that’s literally next to the church, so we just walked across the street.

Emily & John

Emily had a sweetness about her that we won't soon forget. She looks soft and elegant in our HB6285 dress at her fall wedding in Philadelphia. Thank you so much to Andrea Hansen Photography (which happens to be Emily's Aunt and Uncle) for capturing this special day in such a beautiful way. John is certainly a lucky groom- we wish you two a lifetime of happiness!
Picture
Saja; How did you meet? Where did he propose?

Emily:
We met completely at random at a neighborhood bar in Brooklyn seven years ago.
On the six year anniversary of the night we met, John brought me to Brooklyn Bridge Park and proposed by the carousel under a beautiful summer sunset.
Picture
Saja: Where did the wedding take place what made you choose there?

Emily:

Although we fell in love in New York City, we decided to get married in Philadelphia because we have lots of family members there.  We chose the Germantown Cricket Club because of its unique historic feel (founded in 1854.)  We lucked out with beautiful fall weather in late October so we were able to take advantage of their spacious grounds for photos and cocktail hour.
Picture
Saja: Is there anything you can point out about your pictures that we might not have noticed?

Emily: We were fortunate to have my aunt and uncle capture our sheer happiness in photos that day!  They are photographers in Newport, RI.

Marsha & Michael

Before heading home to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, we have a special wedding to post! The love shared between Marsha & Michael is truly a special one, and we so enjoyed talking with her about their wedding day. Marsha is a stunning bride wearing LD6015 paired with some festive florals to add a bit of New Mexican flare! Thanks so much to LD Bright Photography for sharing your work. Congrats again to M & M!!
Picture
Saja: How did you meet?

Marsha:
We met in 2009 waiting tables at a NYC West Village bistro. Michael was the only shining light in the most horrible of jobs. His jokes and charm got me through each shift.

Saja: How did he propose?

Marsha: It was Christmastime 2013 and we had just finished unwrapping gifts from each other. Then Michael left the room and came back and said, "I have one more tiny gift". He got down on one knee and the rest is history.
Picture
Picture
Saja: Where did the wedding take place? What made you choose there?

Marsha:
It took place on June 27, 2015 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I'm originally from Santa Fe but moved to NYC for college in 2001. All my family lives in New Mexico and it's just a really gorgeous city to have a wedding in.

Saja: Is there anything you can point out about your pictures that we might not have noticed?

Marsha: Santa Fe is normally a really sunny city. However on our wedding day there were some crazy storm clouds gathering just before the ceremony - I think you can tell from the lighting. The crazy thing was that as soon as the ceremony was over and we were being escorted out of the ceremony space by the mariachi band, that's when the rain started to come. The rain held out just for us.
Picture
Saja: What was your favorite part of the day?

Marsha: I know its cliche to say but the entire day was perfect but I have one great memory: I remember being really nervous walking down the aisle with the my parents and I couldn't see Michael until we rounded the corner. As soon as I saw him, my nerves evaporated and I knew I was home.
Picture
Saja: Which of the photos is your favorite? Why?

Marsha: My favorite photo is the one where Michael is holding me. I think it perfectly captures our playfulness as a couple. There hasn't been a day in our relationship when he hasn't made me laugh.

Saja brides are modern, and as a result quite non-traditional. Our bride, Dana loved the idea of a soft, simple, flowy Saja gown, but wanted to incorporate a bit of color. She is radiant wearing our HB6622 dress in fleur de lys with tiny white Calla Lilies tucked in her hair. We love the vibe of her laid back wedding at Palmer House in Princeton, NJ. Thank you so much to Flowerstation for the lovely blooms, Ivanka Lova for hair and makeup.

Picture
Saja: How did you meet?

Dana:

Corey and I met on the tropical island of Bocas del Toro in Panama in 2009. I was working at my friend's hostal and Corey was working at another hostal on the island. We were both coming to vacation from very different origins, but what started as an island fling soon got serious and a few months later we were living together in NYC.

Saja: How did he propose?

Dana:

We live by Central Park and one night last fall, after taking our puppy out for the last walk, coming back from the park, Corey put out his hand to hold mine, and in his palm was the ring. I was so shocked.

Saja: Where did the wedding take place? What made you choose there?

We got married in Palmer House Princeton NJ. We were going to have it in my mom's back yard but the numbers soon were too large. The setting was perfect, informal but classy. And the weather was unbelievable.

Saja: What was your favorite part of the day?

Wow I can't really think of one moment. The whole day was so special, even the parts I was dreading (like reading the vows!) Seeing all my favorite people outside eating and drinking was really enjoyable.

Saja: Which of the photos is your favorite? Why?

I think the one a is pretty special. It captures us right after the ceremony is over. We are so happy. and You can see my sister playing guitar in the background.

Saja: Is there anything you can point about your pictures that we might not have noticed?

It was so special to have our puppy there. We also built our own chuppah, which really went perfectly with the dress, the sun, and the whole vibe of the wedding.

Justina Bilodeau is one of our favorite photographers to work with. From the staging to the amazing team of vendors (whom we now refer to as "friendors",) her work is truly special. For this beautiful Fall Friday, we have a seasonally inspired styled shoot with some details for the equestrian lover too. The soft sleeves and embroidery work on our RM6325 gown blend so beautifully with the changing leaves, autumnal arrangements by Minka Flowers and our favorite Bella Belle Shoes. The striking shots with the backdrop and equestrian companion will truly take your breathe away... Enjoy!

There is nothing we love more than a classic NYC wedding! Jodi is an Upper East Sider and true New Yorker through and through, down to her arrival in a taxi! Her genuine sweetness and sense of humor will not soon be forgotten here at Saja, we are so happy to see her glowing in HB6285 paired with our OY1000 belt. We love the way that Kelli Patterson captured her fun-loving personality and the true celebration throughout the day- thank you so much! Jodi & Brad, we wish you much happiness for year to come- congratulations!!

Saja: How did you meet?

Jodi:
We actually knew each other in college (A VERY LONG TIME AGO AT THIS POINT!) and saw each other sporadically over the years at parties etc.  Brad moved to my neighborhood and we met up for drinks and were inseparable ever since.  (Well I'm in inseparable, he's only secretly inseparable!)
Picture

Saja: How did he propose?

Jodi:
Brad proposed in Central Park on President's Day (Feb 16th 2015) - since I'm such a history buff (Just kidding).  We were about to go on a 2 week trip to Italy and he originally wanted to propose in Venice but freaked out about carrying the ring to Europe uninsured (I'm glad he's practical like myself).  Anyway, we got engaged and then went on this awesome vacation right after...it was like an engagementmoon??  I was very surprised as I really didn't know it was coming.

Saja: Where did the wedding take place? What made you choose there?

Jodi:

Parlor Steakhouse - local restaurant in our neighborhood.  We wanted to get married in a convenient location for guests and for us.  We liked the decor of the restaurant and that we didn't have to decorate it at all.  Also, the restaurant's main floor wall is all windows so it was able to feel like a summer day inside without having to worry about the weather.

Charlotte & Aaron

11/6/2015

Happy Friday! Heading into the weekend with Charlotte & Aaron's wedding all the way from Australia. We don't have the pleasure of meeting all of our international brides in person, but we love being able to see the way their special days come to life! Thank you so much to Gary Schlatter of Vision and Imagination Photography for making it possible! Charlotte looks chic and elegant in HB6899 alongside her handsome groom. We love the modern vibe of Lightspace, the converted warehouse they chose. Check it out!
Picture
Saja: How did you meet?

Charlotte:
Aaron and I met at a party organised by his bandmate and advertised on Twitter. I followed his bandmate and received an invite. This was in the early days of Twitter, when there were very few users and those few of us that used it organised events semi-regularly to meet up in real life. So I felt safe going to a party, even though I hadn’t met the host in real life yet.
Aaron and I were there and we laughed a lot together. I thought he was too attractive to be a nice guy. But we had our first date the very next day, and other than when we have been kept apart by work trips or family holidays, we have spent almost every day together since.
Picture
Saja: How did he propose?

Charlotte:
There wasn’t a proposal. We wanted an agreement to be made between the two of us as a mutual arrangement, rather than one person leading the other. One day we found out about a really great venue in our home city, called Lightspace, and so we decided to see how they worked and if they were available at a good time for us. We visited Lightspace and we liked the function space even better in person than in photos we’d seen, and the organisers there were lovely and friendly and laid back, so we chose a date and booked it. Then we told our families!
Picture
Saja: Where did the wedding take place? What made you choose there?

Charlotte:
Lightspace is an old warehouse turned into a function space. It is great because it is a private space. They only host one function at a time so the whole centre is given over to you as the hirer. There’s a function manager there who knows your run times and makes sure everything happens when and how it is supposed to. Most importantly, the space is beautiful; functional and industrial but also well-decorated and welcoming. We didn’t have to do much to make it look like our wedding. We put some photos and pictures (my husband is an artist) on the walls to make it ours. We also made sure the venue would allow us to have dogs. It was the first question we asked of the venue! We wanted my parents’ dog, Bagley, to attend.
Picture
Picture
Saja: What was your favorite part of the day?

Charlotte:
Our favourite part of the day? That’s a tough question! I barely remember the ceremony; it went so fast and at the end of it we were married. Aaron chose the aisle song; it was She by Elvis Costello. We played the sound of the TARDIS before it came on, so it seemed like I had arrived with the Doctor ;). I vaguely remember walking down the aisle... Thankfully there are photos! But I think my favourite part of the day is just the feeling that I had that all the people I loved were in one room and were happy for us.

Saja: Which of the photos is your favorite? Why?

Charlotte: I love the moon, and often share observations of the moon on Instagram using the hashtag #moonobs. This one (abovie) is my favourite #moonobs picture of all time! I also love the photo (below) of us dancing with our eyes closed. We are both so happy in that picture, and it felt easy and natural and perfect in that moment. We danced to Magic Works, a song from the soundtrack to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire! Being married is functionally no different for us than not being married was. But it feels more secure, somehow. The promise in front of all our family and friends was solemn and made our love feel unconditional, though we had already believed it to be so before we were married.

Sarah & Sing

We're so excited to share these photos from Sarah & Sing's wedding (even though apparently someone thought they were Marika and David!) She is glowing in DT6366 at not one, but two of our favorite NYC Venues- The Wythe Hotel and The Brooklyn Winery. We absolutely loved working with Sarah, plus her sisters (who wore Saja bridesmaids gowns alongside her) and will remember their loving family for years to come. Thanks so much to Dave Robbins Photography for sharing!

We're starting off the week with some truly incredible shots from Kathleen & Graham's intimate lakeside wedding in upstate New York. She looks effortlessly stunning in HB6285 surrounded by Saipua florals and the rolling scenery at Lakeview Events Center. We love the way the day came together with details from family, friends and vendors close to the couple. Special thank you to Sheena Kim at Unique Lapin Photography for sharing such beautiful work. Congratulations to a beautiful bride (from the inside out) and her handsome groom!

Saja: How did you meet?

Kathleen:
Graham and I met right before I graduated college in New York. I was about to move away for a summer job but we decided be long distance. Halfway through the summer, Graham decided he wanted to move back to his hometown in Alabama for a few months before finishing school in Olympia, WA. I was game for a change so we actually ended up living together after 3 months of dating and moving across the country after 6 months! Almost 6 years later, we're married!

Saja: How did he propose?

Kathleen: We were hiking in Glacier National Park in Montana. Graham leaned down to get a snack from his backpack and pulled out a gallon ziplock bag that held my engagement ring in a velvet pouch! He popped down on one knee on the trail! Immediately afterward we encountered a moose. It was really scary and hilarious and appropriate.

Saja: Where did the wedding take place? What made you choose there?

Kathleen: We got married right outside my hometown in Oneonta, NY. When I was a kid, I went to a YMCA day camp at this property that was eventually sold and turned into a wedding venue! It was great to have a bit of a personal history there and upstate NY is one of my favorite parts of the world!

Saja: What was your favorite part of the day?

Kathleen: Our ceremony was my favorite part. We were both crying for most of the ceremony.  It ended up raining the day of the wedding which was a bummer because we had hoped to camp out after but we had the ceremony under a tin roof pavilion. The rain falling on the roof and everyone huddled up trying to stay dry just made it feel so intimate and special. I'm actually happy it rained!

Saja: Is there anything you can point out about your pictures that we might not have noticed?

Kathleen: We had so many friends and family involved in making our day so wonderful. I've known the catering company owner since I was little; our friends helped with practically everything from our save the dates, designs for our beer coozies, flowers, DJing, to making announcements and officiating our ceremony. It was truly a community of people that made our engagement and wedding so special. Sheena did an amazing job capturing the emotion of the day but it's hard to know all that from a photo.

Saja: Which of the photos is your favorite? Why?

Kathleen: So many but I really love the photo of me and Graham at the end of the night, out in the rain, throwing shakas!

We so enjoyed getting to know Adrian- a bride with a truly lovely personality and a cool, unique style to match! We love the way CR6380 complements her and pairs with the lush bouquet by A Night in Bloom Event Floristry. Full Moon Resort in the Catskills sets such a romantic stage for Adrian & Ben's special day with sprawling green grass and breathtaking foliage. Thank you so much to L & L Style Photography for capturing the scenery and mood of the day so magically. Many congratulations to Adrian & Ben, we wish you all the very best~

Saja: How did you meet?

Adrian:
We met in college, but didn’t start dating until after we’d both graduated. We were part of the same large circle of friends, and we reconnected at a friend’s party in the summer of 2008. After that weekend we started visiting each other – he lived in Canada, I lived in Maine – and have been together ever since.

Saja: How did he propose?

Adrian:
Neither one of us officially proposed. We had been talking about marriage for a while, and reached the point where we knew we were both ready. We decided to go out on a fancy date to ‘make it official.’ Ben planned the whole thing, and before dinner he took me to the park, sat me down on a bench and told me all of the reasons why he wanted to marry me and thought we made a great team.

Saja: Where did the wedding take place? What made you choose there?

Adrian:
Our wedding took place in Big Indian, New York at the Full Moon Resort in the Catskills. We live in Brooklyn, but knew we wanted to have our wedding in nature. I grew up going to the Catskills, so it has a special significance for me. We chose Full Moon Resort for a few reasons. One, it’s entirely beautiful. It has 100 acres of land to walk through and explore. It was also perfect because we wanted a venue we could take over for the entire weekend. Almost all of our guests stayed for two nights at Full Moon, and we hosted various events in all of their amazing venues onsite – including a barn, reception tent, outdoor ceremony location, and a ‘Roadhouse’ bar. We got to spend a lot of quality time with our guests, which was exactly what we wanted.

Saja: What was your favorite part of the day? Why?

Adrian:
I can’t choose one part. The whole day flowed so well. As most of our guests stayed at the wedding site with us, we got to have breakfast and lunch with our families, swim in the pool and play lawn games with our friends, and go for a long walk on the property. Despite having an already amazing day, the ceremony was truly special. Ben and I wrote the whole thing ourselves, and had our siblings and both of our mothers lead different parts of it. Looking out and seeing everyone we loved in one place sharing this experience with us was unforgettable.

Saja: Which of the photos is your favorite? Why?

Adrian:
My favorite photos are after the ceremony, during the ‘magic hour’ when the sun is just so. The lighting is amazing. We were just walking around the property with our photographers and reveling in what had just happened.
