Saskia & Daniel's wedding at a family home on Lake Skaneateles is such a beautiful way to start the week! She is stunning wearing HB6556 with a simple twist-tie sash and gentle bits of baby's breath flowers tucked throughout her hair. Each part of this wedding, from the intimate lakeside ceremony to the porch dance party is full of love and joy. Thank you so much to Craig Griffin Photography for allowing us to take part in this couple's very special day! Congratulations again to Saskia & Daniel. Saja: How did you meet? Saskia: We met in college at Dickinson College in Pennsylvania (if you want more detail about that...our (well dressed) friend wearing the suspenders in the wedding photos introduced us. He recruited Dan to be a Cub Scout leader in the town where our school was and I was in charge of youth mentoring projects in our university’s community service office and on a weekend training retreat for all mentors, Dan asked me out) Saja: How did he propose? Saskia: I came home from work on a regular Tuesday evening, a bit sweaty and flustered from my long bike commute home. Dan had cleaned and was cooking dinner which were pretty usual but as I tried to cool down he told me he had a gift for me. It was a handmade journal and in the first page he had written me a note about all the highlights ups and downs we had experienced over the years we have known each other and how he was excited for all the things to come together. And when I turned the next page, he had written ‘Will you marry me?’ and cut a square into several layers of the paper where the ring (his great great aunt’s) was inside. After a moment of shock, I of course said yes! We wrote our vows in that same journal and read from it during our wedding ceremony. Saja: Where did the wedding take place? What made you choose there? Saskia: Dan’s family lakehouse on Lake Skaneateles, NY (Finger Lakes). The house was built by Dan’s great great grandparents in the early 1900’s so lots of family and historical significance there. And it’s been preserved to look exactly the way it did when it was originally built. Dan grew up going there every summer and we’ve been going there together since we started dating. It’s beautiful and an incredibly special place to us both. Saja: Is there anything you can point out about your pictures that we might not have noticed? Saskia: We had a very small (16 people total) Quaker style wedding which meant that it began with a period of sitting in silence and everyone participates in the ceremony by sharing a text (something they wrote, a poem, a blessing, song lyrics) and also a specially made wedding certificate that everyone signs. The photos where we are reading a text and there is a speaker is a message from my grandmas back in the Netherlands (she is 92 and could not fly over) that my friends recorded as a surprise and played (and handed out translations) during the sharing portion of the ceremony. Saskia continued, "The photos taken at the bridge and also in the rocking chairs in front of the fireplace are recreations of some old photos from the early 1900’s of Dan’s relatives taken in the same spots." Saja: Which of the photos is your favorite? Why? Saskia: So many amazing ones but I think the one of us down by the lake holding sparklers is my favorite. There is just so much joy captured in the entire frame of that photo. The one of us kissing (with me on my tippy toes and surrounded by this circle of loved ones) is a close second. Saja: What was your favorite part of the day? Saskia: Honestly the whole day and night were amazing. But the ceremony was just incredibly emotional and moving not just Dan and I reading our own written vows but all the incredible things that our friends and families shared. Dancing on the porch was a close second favorite part. Because it was an intimate group of people we are closest with and because we spent 4 days together up at the lake house everyone was very well acquainted with each other and I really felt and saw that while we were dancing. Saskia said, "Neither Dan nor I had had given much thought to our wedding day or envisioned it in great detail before we got engaged and when we were planning it we knew it would be fun and meaningful, but while it was happening and also now, we both say that it was truly one of the happiest days of our lives....so far :)"
Katie & Ryan's wedding took place at what the bride called her "favorite place in the world." Everything from the setting to Katie's styling is simply breathtaking and the sheer details on HB6633 make it all the more stunning. Thank you so much to Eminence Photo for capturing all of this beauty and sharing it with us. Many congratulations to Katie and Ryan, we wish you all the very best~ Saja: How did you meet? Katie: We met in NYC and were set up by Ryan’s cousin and my best friend who were dating at the time. Saja: How did he propose? Katie: Ryan proposed at my family’s farm – the same place that we were married. It’s where I grew up and is incredibly special to me. Saja: Which of the photos is your favorite? Why? Katie: The photo of us kissing after we got married is one of my favorites because of the look of joys on our brothers’ and my sister’s faces. Saja: Where did the wedding take place? What made you choose there? Katie: The wedding took place on my family farm where I grew up, and is one of my favorite places in the world. Saja: What was your favorite part of the day?
Katie: The whole day was incredibly special because of all of the wonderful people that it involved and how personal the details were to us. My brother married us, my sister and Ryan’s brother were are best man + maid of honor that married us, the cord, veil + coins that we used during the ceremony were the same ones that Ryan’s brother and sister used in their weddings, and the hanky that was wrapped around my bouquet is the same one that my mother, grandmother, and great grandmother used in their weddings. We can’t imagine a better wedding. We're ending the week with some absolutely breathtaking shots from our bride, Minou's wedding. Isabelle Selby is such a talented photographer and we love the way she captured the beauty of this bride as well as the natural landscape. Minou is stunning in HB6565 and we are so happy to see her wedding day turn out so full of love. Many congratulations to Minou and Nathan~
Maureen was such a lovely presence in our store. We always said she looked like Elizabeth Taylor, and she is truly stunning in HB6365 on her wedding day. With Yan's friends and family coming all the way from Australia and the couple's friends coming in from New York, they were surrounding by much love for their special day. We are so grateful to Heidi-O-Photo for sharing Maureen's special day with us. Many congratulations to Maureen and Yan, we wish you all the very best~ Saja: How did you meet? Maureen: We met in New York :) I was a grad student at NYU and he was doing engineering research there. Saja: How did he propose? Maureen: After my graduation, Yan took me to Blue Hill Stone Barns, a working farm/restaurant in Westchester, to celebrate. I love gardening and fancy myself a bit of an urban farmer (at least as much as a New York apartment will allow). He proposed in the vegetable patch. It was spring so all of the little vegetables were just coming in and the sun was setting over the Hudson. It was really gorgeous. Saja: Where did the wedding take place? What made you choose there? Maureen: We got married at a 1920s cottage on the cliffs over looking the ocean in San Diego, California. I grew up there and so the area is sentimental but also really beautiful. The whole event was outdoors under market lights. And the view of the sunset is incredible. Saja: Is there anything you can point out in the photos that we might not have noticed? Maureen: Our bridal party was made up of just our siblings, my brother and two sisters and Yan's brother. We got all got ready at my grandparents house which was really special. Saja: Which of the photos is your favorites? Why? Maureen: My favorite is the one of Yan and I looking out over the ocean. I love the succulents growing wildly on the cliffs, the beautiful sunset, and of course the dress looks gorgeous! Saja: What was your favorite part of the day? Why?
Maureen: My family is mostly from San Diego, but Yan is from Australia. A lot of his friends and family made the big trip for our wedding. Also, our friends all came out from New York. Having all of the people you love and care about most, especially from so many different places, there to celebrate with us was so humbling and so much fun. Lauren is such a special bride for us here at Saja. We have looked forward to her contagious smile and bubbly personality lighting up the store with each visit. It has been such a pleasure to get to know her and her amazing family, from her parents to sister to fashionista nieces! We are thrilled to see her special day at the Village Club in Lake Success turn out so beautifully, and so full of love. She is simply stunning in HB6565. Many thanks to Capture the Moment Productions for sharing with us! Congratulations to Lauren and her very lucky groom, Scott!
There is such a soft elegance about our bride, Jenni's wedding. She looks so delicate in the sheer details on HB6622, paired with a flowers sash and how beautiful is that sunset during the ceremony? Thanks so much to Charla Storey for sharing these beautiful images. Many congratulations to Jenni and her groom~
There is so much love that went into this intimate backyard affair. From meeting at the Dead Poet Bar on the Upper West Side to their wedding at Matt's family home, the joy between these two is obvious. Sarah is soft and elegant in HB6622 and we love the knit jacket she paired for the later hours of the celebration. Thank you much to Alex Ward Photography for sharing it all with us! Saja: Where did the wedding take place? Sarah: The wedding took place at Matt's childhood home / his dad's house in Londonderry, NH. We loved planning the event and working on the backyard together and with both of our families. Saja: Which of the photos is your favorite? Sarah: I have a few, including the ones that show the top details of the dress and it's beautiful movement in the windy moments. One in particular though is just after the ceremony when we are (literally) jumping with joy! Saja: What was your favorite part of the day? Why? Sarah: Our favorite part of the day was how epically helpful all of our friends and family were in helping us set up the morning of and contributing their amazing skills to help bring the day together. It was so much better than we could have pulled off on our own, and it was such an incredible show of community. Blown away with appreciation at their help. Congratulations again, Sarah & Matt~
There is such an amazing energy from Tascha & Joey's wedding. We felt it from the first time we met this beautiful bride and are so happy to see it reflected all throughout her wedding at Indian Ladder Farms. We love the way she paired classic HB6565 with vintage-inspired pearls and lace, as well as her flower crown. These photos were taken by Tascha & Joey's friend Garrett Bean, and his girlfriend Yang. We are so thankful to be able to share these amazing shots! Saja: How did you meet? Tascha: Joey and I met at a mutual friend's band's concert at a local venue when I was on break from college in Boston, just about to head back for my last semester. I saw him from across the room and I knew at that moment that we were going to end up together somehow. He bought me a drink and I was so nervous that after a brief conversation I ran back to my friend and left for the night. About a year later, after graduation and moving back home, we met again - at another of our mutual friend's band's concerts. This time, I was brave enough to ask him to dance with me (even though, to this day, he swears he can't dance, and only does so because of me,) and we've been together ever since. Saja: How did Joey propose to you? Tascha: I had gotten really sick, and he rushed me to the E.R. in the middle of the night when I was having trouble breathing. He stayed by my side all night and day, until he left under the guise of getting me some things from home to make me more comfortable. When he came back, it was with a bouquet of flowers, my sweatpants, and his shirt that I like to borrow to sleep in. He got up into the hospital bed with me, and after a long speech that had us both in tears, he gave me the ring that his father had given to his mother, and I said yes! I was definitely looking and feeling my least sexy up until that point, hooked up to IVs and monitors, but he made me feel like the most beautiful girl on earth, and I knew that he took 'In sickness and in health' seriously, haha! Saja: Where did the wedding take place? What made you choose there? Tascha: We got married at Indian Ladder Farms in Altamont, NY - which is an apple orchard about an hour from where we live in Lake George, NY. We both had our hearts set on an outdoor venue, but wanted to be able to create our own day and not be tied to using a specific caterer, be in and out in the span of 5 hours, or have to rent bathroom trailers (You would be surprised - some places don't even have running water!) I managed to find out about ILF through a random wedding forum, and quickly dragged Joey down there for some apple picking and to scope the place out. We both fell in love with the view, and all the staff there was so amazing and helpful. And, it worked into our budget so that we were able to splurge on amazing food and drinks. The staff there baked our wedding cupcakes [spice cake with fresh spiced buttercream!] and tons of cider donuts - and the venue was so beautiful that we barely had to do any decorating! We plan to come back every year for apple picking, and to visit the spot where we tied the knot! :) Saja: Which of the photos is your favorite? Why? Tascha: I love the first kiss shot! I'm so glad that they were able to capture it at the perfect moment, and the view of the mountains in the distance is incredible. And I love the pictures they shot as we were walking through the orchard together :) Saja: What was your favorite part of the day? Tascha: The look on his face when I saw him for the first time walking down the aisle. I really thought I was going to be able to hold it together, but I cried through the whole thing, and so did he! I really enjoyed that after the ceremony we were able to spend a few quiet moments alone walking through the orchard together while our photographer friend snapped away in the distance, just to let everything soak in before we went back to celebrate with our families. I know people say that things don't really change after you get married - but I think they did. There's something so amazing about looking to the person next to you and knowing that they've chosen to share their forever with you. Saja: Is there anything about the photos we might not have noticed? Tascha: We were actually lucky enough to have two photographers - our mutual friend Garrett and his girlfriend, Yang - who took time off from film school to shoot our wedding. It's been so interesting to see both perspectives of our wedding, especially since I felt like the day went by so quickly! Seeing the pictures helps recapture all those moments that are so precious to us both. The food was cooked on site by Chef David Britton and Pies on Wheels and it was AMAZING. He surprised us by adding an absolutely delicious paella that had people raving. Congratulations, Tascha & Joey~ Brittany makes such a breathtakingly stunning bride. She looks radiantly happy at her wedding full of good food, music, company and gorgeous weather. LD6001 was such a perfect choice for the laid back, ethereal vibe at Lareau Farm Inn in Waitsfield, Vermont. Thank you so much to J. Harper Photography, and the couple's friends for sharing these beautiful photos with us. Congratulations again to Brittany and her groom!
These shots taken by Taylor Clark Photography of Miranda & Alex's special day are simply breathtaking. We love everything about this wedding: the location, Miranda's hair, her decorative belts... and so much more. Her talented photographer captured the emotion and feel of her wedding day so well and our HB6565 dress couldn't look any more perfect on this beautiful bride! Saja: How did you meet? Miranda: Alex and I met through my family members. He went to university with my brother and two older sisters. We had always seen one another at various sporting events, and parties. Eventually this friendship grew into something more and we both decided we had met the one we wanted to spend the rest of our lives with ! Saja: How did he propose? Miranda: Alex took me to the first place we ever had a real date. It was a nice restaurant in the distillery district in Toronto. After a lovely dinner, we were walking through the distillery district when he proposed. It was a beautiful night, and it was just the two of us in the streets. It completely took me by surprise! Saja: Where did the wedding take place? What made you choose there? Miranda: We decided to have our wedding at my parents farm. I have lived there most of my life and always dreamt that this would be the place where I would get married. Alex and I both love the property and it was the perfect location for our earthy, vintage style wedding. It really meant a lot to our family to have the wedding there. Everything was perfect. Saja: Which of the photos is your favorite? Why? Miranda: We love all of our photos ! The black and white one of us holding hands really is indicative of our feelings for one another. We both look at ease and blissful in the moment. What was your favorite part of the day? Why? Miranda: I honestly couldn’t pick just one moment! The entire day went so smoothly, it was so full of love and laughter. Everyone seemed to have the best time. If I had to choose the best part it would be seeing Alex at the end of the aisle, and sharing memories with my family members while they said their speeches. Thank you for sharing and wishing so much laughter to the newly married couple~
Laura and her groom met while in medical school in New Orleans. He proposed during Mardi Gras, and they've since moved up to New York City for their training. The couple wanted to bring the fun, relaxed style of New Orleans to their wedding in the Finger Lakes and from the look of these photos, they did just that! She looks gorgeous in HB6565 and we love the delicate head piece she accessorized. Laura said, "It was the most fun night ever! I wish we could do it over and over again!" Thanks so much to Erica Hasenjager for sharing and many, many congratulations to Laura and her groom!
Our bride Cathy and her groom Michael make quite the stunning couple! We absolutely love the way her talented photographer, Kate Ann Morris, captured the light through the dreamy organza on AH6200. Congratulations to a lovely couple and thank you so much for the amazing images!
We can't get enough of Catherine's festive red, white and blue wedding in Milford, New Hampshire. She looks flawless and the detailing on the sheer neckline of her AH6235 dress is so delicate against her skin. Thanks so much to Brandon Rodkewitz for all of these amazing shots and congratulations to such a beautiful bride!
Whitney and Brian met while studying abroad in Alcala den Henares, Spain during their junior year at Loyola College in 2006. The two were lucky enough to have an amazing experience traveling throughout Europe together and have been inseparable ever since! Their intimate outdoor wedding on the eastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay is nothing short of breathtaking... Saja: How did he propose? Whitney: Brian asked me to marry him on June 21, 2013 on our favorite day, the summer solstice! We were near the small town of Woodstock, Vermont; a place each of our families have always visited since we were both very young. A fun coincidence we realized shortly after meeting! Now it is a place we weekend together. He asked me to marry him during a hike and picnic in a quiet spot down in the Queechee gorge. We celebrated that night over dinner at Simon Pierce restaurant, watching hot air balloons fly over the river. A perfect day! Whitney and Brian chose to have their wedding at The Combsberry Inn in Oxford Maryland- a beautiful property set on the water that they were able to use as their private wedding venue for the entire weekend. Guests stayed in St. Michaels, a small eastern shore town with fun restaurants, shopping and amazing views of the Chesapeake Bay. The couple chose to be married in Maryland as the bride is from the eastern shore area and both are graduates of Loyola College in Maryland. Saja: What was your favorite part of the day? Whitney: If I have to choose one, my favorite moment of the day was walking down the isle with my mom to Bron-yr-aur, an acoustic Led Zeppelin song we asked our guitarist to learn for the ceremony. It has be a dream of mine to walk down the isle to that song since I was 14 years old. It was a dream come true and so exciting to have the entire evening to look forward to at that point. Saja: Is there anything in the photos we wouldn't notice right away? Whitney: I decided at the last minute to get married barefoot and stayed that way for the entire reception! Initially I had shoes but it was such a nice day, it just felt right to kick them off and relax. Saja: Which is your favorite photo and why? Whitney: I don't think I can choose a favorite photo but I do love the pictures of Brian and I during our first dance to Across the Universe. It was another favorite moment from the day with our bluegrass band playing an amazing version of the song and my dress looks absolutely gorgeous if I do say so myself! We couldn't agree more! Thanks so much to Natalie Reid of Natalie Lane Photography for these photos and thanks again to Whitney for being such a beautiful bride!
After having such an incredible experience with our bride Hannah and her loving grandparents here at the store, we couldn't be more excited to post these photos from her big day! She looks absolutely stunning!! We especially love the shots of Hannah alongside her sister (who is a Saja Bridesmaid!) and of her grandfather accompanying her down the aisle. Thank you so much to Rima Brindamour for sharing your incredible work. Congratulations one last time, Hannah! We wish you and your amazing family all the very best! Today, we are taking a moment to remember Hannah's elegant grandmother. Last year, she graced us with her presence when visiting our store with her grandfather to congratulate and generously pay for Hannah's wedding dress. Her grandfather and grandmother have been married for almost 65 years, we should all be so lucky. She is no longer with us but her loveliness made us truly feel privileged and love our jobs thanks to her. We will remember Hannah and her lovely family for a long time to come...
