We absolutely love getting pictures from Kreativ Wedding Photography in Germany. There is such an elegant, brightness to the moments they capture, that it makes it difficult to choose between them! Christina & Sebastian's simple and colorful wedding in the sweet village of Solingen is the perfect example! She is beaming in our HB6979 from Victoria Rüsche, surrounded by pure love and joy on her special day. Thank you so much for sharing and many congratulations to Christina & Sebastian!
We've had many brides get married in Sweden, and are truly blown away each and every time. There is something so serene about the setting that creates such a beautiful ambiance for weddings- and Caroline's is no exception. She looks stunning in our HB6565 dress with a low braided updo and hair accessories. From her handsome groom and adorable sons to the heartfelt music played by loved ones, this special day is surrounded with love. Thank you so much to Annie Grunditz who Caroline described as "a young woman with so much energy and ideas to make the emotions talk in the pictures," and we couldn't agree more! Congratulations again, Caroline and Gustav!! Saja: How did you meet? Caroline: We met at work. Went out for a drink in September 2008 and been a couple since Saja: How did he propose? Caroline: It was July 15, 2014. He had asked my parents to look after our kids during our holiday in France where we were staying for a 2 week vacation. Then he took me to the small village, Collioure near the Spanish boarder. He found a small alley with no other people besides us. He went down on his knees and proposed... I said Yes! Saja: Where did the wedding take place? What made you choose there? Caroline: Our wedding took place at Vidbynäs Gård, a lovely mansion south of Stockholm. We chose that place for several reasons. We love food, and at Vidbynäs they really know how to create a dinner worth remembering. All our guest could sleep over since they have rooms for over 100 people. And the location of Vidbynäs is romantic, near a small lake called Turingen. We had our own wedding planner helping with everything, which was very much appreciated. Saja: Which of the photos is your favorite? Why? Caroline: Hmmm, I have 3 favorites. The first one is where we see our kids all dressed up. There is so much love in that picture. The second one is the first kiss after we see each other for the first time in our wedding attire. Then there is this one, where Gustav is looking at me with so much love while we are listening to my niece singing "All of me" by John Legend. Saja: Is there anything you can point out in your pictures that we might not have noticed? Caroline: During the ceremony our friend Elias was singing a song called “Värmlandsvisan” which is a song about the region were Gustav is born and raised. Also my niece only 15 years old was singing for us during the ceremony. All this wonderful songs were very emotional. So we ended by walking out to the song “Something new” by Axwell/Ingrosso – the picture where I raise my hand. We wanted our wedding to be a joyful day and I think that walking out to that song gave all our guest the feeling to relax and have fun! Saja: What was your favorite part of the day?
Caroline: Oh, this is a really hard question because the whole day was magic. But during the wedding cake my niece and the Best Man were singing some songs – and that was a lovely moment taking us away from dinner mood to a party mood. Where better to run off for an elopement than the City of Love? Cynthia of Cynthia Martyn Fine Events staged this shoot at the Shangri-La Hotel in Paris in such a glamorous and romantic way. HB6565 looks truly elegant with a gold headpiece and simple long veil. Thank you so much to these amazing vendors for such beautiful work!

Carolyn and her bridal party were a very special bunch. The love and support they shared were limitless. The bride wore our RM6325 and her bridesmaids wore our HB6622 in Dawn. The wedding took place at the groom's grandparents' farm in Hassla Sweden. Needless to say it's a magical place... We thank Carolyn and David for sharing their wedding pictures with us and their talented photographer Sara Lejon for capturing the moments. We wish them many magical moments like those shared on their wedding day, for years to come... Saja: How did you meet? Carolyn: We met at Printed Matter, NY’s oldest nonprofit dedicated to artists’ publications. I was working there and we were having a book launch for one of the many books David has published. One of the only rules about book launches was no red wine and David walked in carry a case of red wine. I thought he was so cute and was so afraid to tell him he had to return it. He then added me to his mailing list and I followed (stalked) his art career for years. Then finally after many missed chances, a few years later we started dating. Saja: How did he propose? Carolyn: We were visiting David’s family in Sweden and he took me on a long ferry ride through the Archipelago to the most beautiful island called Sandhamn. I was laying on the rocks looking out at the water/closing my eyes and taking it all in, and David asked me if I wanted a Starburst (the candy!). I said no and then I opened my eyes and my mom’s/great grandmother’s engagement ring was in front of me. I turned around and he asked me to marry him while chewing his strawberry Starburst. It was perfect! And to this day the smell of strawberry candy makes me think of his proposal. Saja: Where did the wedding take place? What made you choose there? Carolyn: The wedding took place on his grandparents’ farm, Hassla in Sweden. We did it in their backyard and it was a nice small, intimate affair. Hassla has always been a special place for David ever since he was a small child. He even named his publishing press after it. We also really wanted his grandparents to be able to be there so it just made perfect sense that we do it on their farm. Saja: What was your favorite part of the day? Why? Carolyn: My favorite part of the day was our first dance. I am a ballet dancer and we danced to Bill Withers, Lovely Day. It was just a ton of fun and also romantic. He has goofy moves that I adore. Saja: Is there anything you can point out about your pictures that we might not have noticed? Carolyn: Is there anything you can point out about your pictures that we might not have noticed?I entrusted the most amazing wedding planner who was able to figure out my vision from my babbling emails and plan the whole wedding from across the ocean. She picked just the right people for hair/makeup, photography, food. I didn’t meet anyone until we arrived and it just all felt right. Saja: Which of the photos is your favorite? Carolyn: All of them. But I really love the one where he is feeding me cake. Saja: Thanks so much, Carolyn! Is there anything else you would like to share?
Carolyn: The farm was the starting point for everything to take off and when I saw my dress on your website I just knew it was the one. It was my first dress to ever try on and I wish I could still wear it every day. I felt like a bohemian princess in it. It was perfect. So perfect that David, who said he wouldn’t cry, cried as soon as he saw it. It was a dream! Anne sent us these beautiful shots from her wedding in France in our HB6622 dress. We love all the soft tones of her wedding including the beautiful venue. We always knew she was beautiful but to see her on her wedding day made us go 'ooh-la-la!'
One of best part of our jobs is that we get to work with brides all over the world. Rebecca found us online and ordered our SH6169 dress online all the way from Switzerland. It's extra special when we get to see the pictures of brides who we haven't had a pleasure to meet in person. Thank you Rebecca!
We love getting photos of our Saja brides abroad! Michelle & Ciaran's wedding on a sunny New Zealand day is so full of love and joy. Michelle looks so effortlessly stunning in HB6285 from Paperswan Bride and the shots of the couple against the vast landscape are truly breathtaking. Thank you so much to Candy Capco for sharing her beautiful work with us. Congratulations, Michelle & Ciaran!!
After quite the stunning feature on Rock My Wedding yesterday, we are so excited to share even more of this romantic shoot with our HB6285 dress by Love That Smile Photography. The grand windows at the Old Parish Rooms make for such a stunning backdrop. We love both styling choices of soft white blooms (against her bright hair) twisted into a soft updo, and the gentle braid paired with a leafy crown. Thank you so much to our friends at Rock The Frock Bridal Boutique for making it possible, and the rest of these talented vendors too!

We're heading into the weekend with some amazing images from a very stormy shoot at the Baltic Sea. When the forecast for one of Germany's strongest hurricanes came through, things looked quite dreary for Dina (wearing our HB6979 dress from Victoria Rüsche,) Lasse and their photographer, Katja. But with plans for this shoot already made, they continued towards the coast. With just a 15 minute window and a bit of fearless attitude, the result is truly breathtaking. Thanks so much to Katja Scherle of Festtagsfotografien for sharing this beautiful shoot and story with us! Many congratulations to Dina & Lasse!
Thanks to our friends Paperswan Bride, we have come across some truly beautiful brides in New Zealand. Jane is stunning in LD6015 and when you couple that with amazing landscapes captured by the talented photographer Nicole Marsden, the result is just magical... Thank you Nicole for sharing your beautiful body of work with us!!
Kira's wedding in the Russian countryside is straight out of a fairytale. She and Misha wanted an intimate and serene experience where their families could get to know one another, and we have to say the result is breathtaking! We love the serene countryside setting and the gorgeous way she styled HB6365. Thank you so much to Olga Golovizina for capturing all of it for us! Many congratulations to this beautiful bride and her groom~ Saja: How did you meet? Kira: We met through mutual friends about 6 years ago in Russia. He was living in New York then and came to visit his family. After a year-long distance relationship I came to visit him and we haven't separated since. Saja: How did he propose? Kira: I was in Miami for Art Basel week with my friends and Misha was staying in New York. On the last day of my trip he wasn’t picking up his phone all day and in the evening when I was at the hotel he called me and said he was downstairs. I was super happy about this surprise but I didn’t see a bigger surprise coming! The next day we drove towards Key West and stayed at a hotel on one of the islands. That night we were having dinner at a restaurant on the beach when they brought a plate with desert and a flower. I was so relaxed and unaware that I didn’t see the ring in the flower right away! I ltheiterally noticed it when I already had a desert spoon in my hand ready to try the cake. Next moment Misha was on his knee asking me to marry him. Saja: Where did the wedding take place? What made you choose there? Kira: We wanted to do our wedding somewhere quiet and tranquil in Russia with our families and close friends. So we picked a venue in the countryside, literally in the middle of nowhere, with lots of trees, fresh air, stables with horses and a nice restaurant. Saja: What was your favorite part of the day? Kira: My favorite part was the ceremony. We both were super excited about our families meeting each other for the first time and being with us when we said our vows. We haven’t seen some of our guests for two years! So when they all came to congratulate us after we exchanged the rings I just couldn’t believe that it was all real! Saja: Is there anything you can point out about your picture that we might not have noticed?
Kira: It was the first warm and sunny weekend in two months! Usually summer in Russia isn’t that bad but we got really lucky with the weather (it’s been raining several weeks before and right after the wedding weekend). Dominique's wedding alongside the St. Lawrence River is so full of love. She is absolutely radiant in the sheer scalloped neckline on AH6235, alongside her bridesmaids in Deep Fuchsia styles DU6574 and HB6631. What a joyous occasion, to be able to celebrate Dominique and her sister's pregnancy as well as a wedding all at once! Thanks so much to Mariane Baillargeon for capturing it all so beautifully! Saja: How did you meet? Dominique: Vincent and I met at a friend’s birthday party eleven years ago. I actually knew who he was because we had friends in common but we had never really hung out together before. We ended up chatting all night. He likes to say that that night it was love at first sight! Saja: How did he propose? Dominique: We were celebrating our 10 year anniversary while on vacation on the Italian Riviera. We had a nice romantic dinner overlooking the sea and afterwards we went strolling in the village. Once we got to the main square he stopped, took my hands into his and pulled a ring out of his pocket! He did not get down on his knees – he is not that traditional! – but he did ask for my father’s blessing before we left on vacation! Saja: Where did the wedding take place? What made you choose there? Dominique: The wedding was in the charming village of Cap-à-l’Aigle in Northern Quebec, Canada. Our friends built a magnificent house there overlooking the St. Lawrence River. We held the ceremony and cocktail on the patio and the dinner and party were in a tent just beside the house. Saja: What was your favorite part of the day? Dominique: The whole day was memorable but I have to say that the ceremony was very special. My little brother officiated and we exchanged our own vows. In addition our mothers and siblings said a few words. All in all it we received a gigantic dose of love! Congratulations, Dominique!!
Katharina's lovely images come to us all the way from Berlin today! She just looks so elegant and ethereal against those old world backdrops! This picture is one of our favorites. What a beautiful shot of the happy couple, just look at those smiles! Congrats to the cute couple! A good friend of the bride took these images, check out her website here: www.carinawendland.de. Thanks for sharing!
Lena is one of our Saja Brides Abroad… and a beautiful one at that! We corresponded with Lena virtually from NYC all the way to UAE. After so much communication, it's such a treat to see her stunning location and the gorgeous way she styled her gown with such soft floral details. We're so thankful to photographers like Melrish Photos & Films that can take us overseas and put us right in the middle of quite the incredible wedding. A very warm congratulations, Lena!
Ben and Sarah are both from Australia, but met in Edinburgh, Scotland. When Ben returned to Australia and Sarah remained living in Scotland, the couple ended up having a long distance relationship and as such never got to travel the beautiful country together. For the wedding, they chose to “semi-elope” from Australia to Scotland, where they had met 5 years earlier. Sarah envisioned their wedding to be just the two of them in a rugged highland ruins and when Ben suggested Kilchurn Castle, a ruined castle built in 1450, it was perfect!
Saja: Tell us about the process of planning an elopement so far away.
Sarah: Our wedding was special to us as we had organized to elope and then were lucky to have my immediate family attend as well. The whole day and subsequent honeymoon were organized on the internet! My gorgeous Saja dress was obviously from New York, shoes were purchased via Ruche in USA, and the organization of the venue, bagpiper, celebrant was all done via email. It was a very easy fuss-free event to organize, just the way I like it!
Saja: Were there any quirks to planning your wedding at a castle rather than a traditional venue?
Sarah: It was the easiest part of the wedding to organize! A simple call to Historic Scotland was all it took and it ended up being the cheapest detail in the whole wedding as well (I believe my flowers were more expensive!) The only problem we had was when it rained non-stop the day before hand, and Historic Scotland rang me the day before to advise that the path leading to the castle was flooded and that I may need to look at a back up plan. The back up plan ended up being gumboots! Easy fix!
Saja: What was your favorite part of the day?
Sarah: Walking down the 1km aisle towards the castle with my dad behind our Bagpiper playing traditional Scottish ballads, and then entering the castle to see Ben and feel the excitement of what was to come.
Saja: Do you have any advice for brides planning a wedding at an exotic destination?
Sarah: Don’t get too caught up on an exotic venue, I think the focus should be on the day itself and what the day means to you and your partner. Also feel free to think outside the box when considering venues, consider alternate options that wouldn’t necessarily be associated with a wedding. You might be surprised what you come up with or what may be available once you actually ask.
Thank you so much to Bayly Moore for the incredible stop-motion film!!
Saja: How/why did you chose this location for your wedding? Jennifer: We always knew we didn’t want a traditional wedding and have both always been interested in a destination wedding. I started a search for a large venue that could potentially accommodate our whole wedding party overnight that way no one would have to travel on the day of our wedding. I found Palazzo Massarucci online and really fell in love with the rustic nature of the castle and the beautiful surroundings. It ended up being the perfect size to accommodate all guests as well. Saja: Were there any quirks to planning your wedding at a castle rather than a traditional venue? Jennifer: We were very attracted to having our wedding at a venue out in the countryside and not in a hotel or resort like the normal destination wedding. It poses a much greater challenge however as there was no one on staff there to help plan. The castle was literally a castle out on the top of a mountain in the country, so we had to be creative with planning and trust that the service providers would show up and have our best interests at heart. The biggest curveball we came across was underestimating the travel to the castle. I was a little naive about traveling through the italian countryside. We are from Austin TX so we are used to driving through the country, however, we were not prepared at all for a trek through the italian countryside- winding gravel roads on the side of the hills, one lane for two way traffic, no street lights etc. Other than that there were just your general quirks that come along with being in a very old building. Saja: What was your favorite part of the day? Jennifer: My favorite part of the day was the FOOD!! There is a restaurant that is literally outside the castle gates. They provided dinner and we had told them just to make whatever they wanted. Needless to say, the food was incredible- the feast lasted almost 4 hours and they just continued to bring out all sorts of appetizers, salads, meats, wine, and ended with an amazing wedding cake filled with fresh berries! Saja: How did you meet your fiance? Jennifer: Mark and I met about 5 years ago through the live music scene here in Austin. A friend of mine was in a band with him and introduced us at one of their shows. We shared a mutual love for late night waffles and would go out to shows, dance, drink and be merry until the wee hours of the morning . Saja: Do you have any advice for brides planning their wedding at an “exotic” venue?
Jennifer: Don’t be too concerned with all of the details. The more details and specifics you demand the more chances you have of things going wrong. I loved that we left the menu, dinnerware, drinks, etc. up to the restaurant, and we left the music choices up to the musician- they are the professionals and they know what they are doing. Also, if you have never been to the location, try and make your start time flexible. We had originally planned on a 3pm wedding, however we noticed the day before that the sun would have been right in our faces at 3pm. Luckily since all of our guests were staying on site, it was easy for us to bump the time back to 3:45. *Flexibility is KEY*- if you are type A this may not be for you! |
