Jessica: We met at the American Museum of Natural History where we were both working at the time. He had just started as a post-doc in ornithology, studying evolution in birds, and I had just finished my Master’s and was interning in the same lab.
Jessica: Bailey proposed in Shelter Island, NY, at this great nature preserve that I love. He tricked me though, because that very morning he had casually said he should probably start thinking about a ring, so I was very surprised when an hour later he was on one knee with one in his hand! I reacted awkwardly at first because I was so surprised!
Jessica: We got married on Shelter Island. My parents live in Europe, where we are from, and my brothers and I live here, so our house on Shelter Island is where we reunite. We’ve been going there for years and it is a very special place for my family. Plus, it is a great place for seeing nature (birds!), and Bailey and I are big fans of nature.
Jessica: I have two favorites. One is black and white of Bailey and I after the ceremony, as we are walking out of the tent, and I am holding his arm. We are both looking at the people around us and we just look so happy. I think our expressions just convey our happiness and gratefulness.
I don’t want to sound conceited by picking one that is of just me, but I love the black and white one in the mirror where I first see myself with the makeup/hair/jewelry, and look surprised at the result. Everything was finally ready, all the hard work had paid off, I was so excited and happy about marrying the man I love!
Jessica: Honestly, I loved it all. I loved getting ready and having all my best friends right there at the inn, I loved running into people arriving, I loved putting on my dress and feeling like a princess. The ceremony was perfect, I loved having my cousin singing there, I loved that we all laughed during the ceremony. Surprisingly, I loved the formal photo shoot of Bailey and I because it gave us time to hang out together and be super happy. The reception and dinner were perfect even though they went way too fast, and I was so happy to have so much family and friends there. And I had a great time hanging out with just friends during after hours until 4am.
Jessica: My mom sewed her beautiful necklace to my veil, and it was wonderful.
