Jae Choon & Chuck

2/24/2015

Jae Choon was such an incredibly lovely (and not to mention beautiful) bride to work with. She came to us with a vision for her intimate garden wedding, and we love the way it came to life in our HB6365 dress. The East Village holds so much meaning to Jae Choon and Chuck, so naturally they chose the neighborhood to host their special day. Every shot from the garden ceremony, to the street art in front an old apartment of Jae Choon's, to their cozy reception at Lucien is full of meaning. Thank you so much to Monika of Monika Broz Photography for taking us through the couple's romantic day and capturing it all so beautifully! Congratulations again to Jae Choon, Chuck and their new family~

Saja: How did you meet?

Jae Choon:
We met at our local dive bar in the East Village (2A).   It was a Tuesday night and there were only 5 people in the bar including Donovan, the bartender.  Everyone started chatting with each other and FaceBook requests were exchanged.  We were both involved with other people at the time, so we were friends/neighborhood acquaintances for a year before we started dating.

Saja: Where did the wedding take place? What made you choose there?

Jae Choon
: We had our wedding at 6BC Botanical Garden.  It's a magical little green space in the heart of Alphabet City.  We had our reception at Lucien, where we had our first official date.  Our romance started and blossomed in the East Village, so it was really special for us to celebrate our union, "east village style."

Saja:  How did he/she propose?

Jae Choon:
We lived in Amsterdam for 2 years.  Chuck proposed on our last full day there, before returning to New York.  We were walking our dog and trying to savor our last moments in that beautiful city.  He stopped to take a picture on a quiet, quaint, side canal and popped the question.  We had a going-away party planned for that evening, which doubled as an engagement party.  All of my friends knew before I did.  I was wonderfully surprised.

Saja: What was your favorite part of the day?

Jae Choon
: Being with my best friend and lover.  "Officially" joining our homes, lives, and hearts.

Saja: Which of the photos is your favorite? Why?

Jae Choon:
Our kiss in front of some street art on 2nd street.  I actually lived in that apartment building when I first met Chuck.

What better way to head in to the weekend than with these amazing photos of Rachel & Dustin's wedding. The way Melissa from Happy Confetti Photography captured the sunlight in so many of these shots is truly breathtaking. Everything from the bride's bouquet to the incredible backdrop to the ceremony to the reception decor is bold, colorful and full of whimsical personality. Rachel makes such a stunning bride in our HB6622 dress and we're loving the shimmering shrug she chose for the cooler part of the evening. Thank you so much again to quite the talented photographer and congratulations again to such a lovely bride and groom~

Ali & Sean

From the first time we met Ali, we knew she was a very special bride. She is beautiful, kind, smart and simply lovely to be around. We even had the pleasure of meeting both of her amazing parents (to do a bit of sash tying practice before the big day!) From the proposal to their bike getaway, Ali & Sean's wedding is full of this couple's personality and love for one another. She couldn't look any more gorgeous in our HB6622 dress, the perfect choice for the simple elegance of the Brooklyn Grange. Thank you so much to the bride and groom's dear friend Phil Anema for capturing all of the beauty this day had to offer. Congratulations again to Ali and Sean, we wish you and your family all the very best!

Saja: How did he propose?

Ali: Sean planned an entire adventure day around the city (beginning at 5:30AM). We got on our bikes and began by crossing into Brooklyn to our favorite coffee shop (Ted & Honey). Then we went back to Manhattan and biked up to central park where we walked down lovers lane as well as spent some time in my favorite wing of the MET. We then biked back to the west village to a German Beer Garden (Laderhosen). Finally we ended up on my rooftop with iced coffees in hand. Throughout the day, Sean was taking pictures of us on his new Polaroid camera. He had over the past few months written 5 different letters to me about the life he wanted to commit to together - a life of: stillness, generosity, gratitude, adventure and curiosity. In each letter, he had placed Polaroid pics from the day's adventure which connected to each. Then, he said that none of this mattered without love and faithfulness. He then got out a ring and proposed...

Saja: Where did the wedding take place? What made you choose there?

Ali: The Brooklyn Grange at the Navy Yard - we had to get married on a rooftop. In the midst of the crazy city we call home, rooftops offer a respite as well as a moment of stillness to reflect and appreciate the life's beauty and simplicity.

Saja: What was your favorite part of the day?

Ali:  We had a single banquet table with our 86 guests. The best part of the day was sitting at the end of the table with Sean, sunshine on our backs, and looking down the line of the incredible friends and family who were with us.

Saja: Is there anything you can point out in the photos that we might not have noticed?

Ali:
I loved how easy going the dress was - it was elegant, but it also held up when Sean and I climbed up a water tower and road away on our tandem bike!

Saja: Which of the photos is your favorite? Why?

Ali: When we are on the bike and Sean is kissing my forehead. It's my favorite because no one was around us for that photo and it felt so right to be on the bike riding home together...also i like it when he kisses my forehead. :-)
